First Responder: 40 hours. Follows the Current  DOT/NHTSA National Standard Curriculum. Optional Automated External Defibrillator training may be added if allowed in your state (additional 4 hours). National Registry testing is available for students on successful completion of this course. This course is designed specifically for fire fighters, police officers, or other professionals who must respond to emergencies and need to know what actions to take until arrival of the ambulance. Prerequisite: High school diploma or GED and current Healthcare Provider level CPR.

EMT-Paramedic: 1633 hours. Exceeds the current  DOT/NHTSA National Standard Curriculum with current information on newer medications, airway devices, transcutaneous pacing, 12-18-lead EKG's, central IV lines and pericardiocentesis. The course includes certification in ACLS, PALS, PHTLS, PEPP, EPC, GEMS and AMLS. National Registry testing is available to students following successful completion of the course. The paramedic is the highest level of prehospital provider. The didactic material for this course will be delivered through a web-based learning management system and weekly live interactive web conferences. Prerequisites: EMT-B or EMT-I and MUST be working for an EMS system with a medical director, MUST show competencies in mathematics, science reading, and written expression (HOBET Exam dates to be announced), MUST have access to a computer with broadband internet access, a CD-ROM drive, a web cam, and headset, MUST have a South Dakota EMT number or be Nationally Registered and capable of obtaining reciprocity to obtain a South Dakota EMT number. Associates Degree in Applied Science in Paramedicine available through dual enrollment with Oglala Lakota College.
