Mountain Plains Health Consortium |

The Mountain Plains Health Consortium, located at Fort Meade, South Dakota, was officially formed in May 1997. Its purpose is to provide continuing and basic education, as well as other health-related services, to members of the consortium. The consortium maximizes scarce health education resources by cooperatively providing education for rural health care providers with similar needs. |

Health Education
Development System, Inc. (HEDS) was
created in 1972 by health care facilities in South Dakota.
HEDS was incorporated as a 501 (c)3 organization in 1977.
Currently, HEDS is composed of over 60 dues-paying members in 5
states — South Dakota, Wyoming, Montana, Nebraska & Minnesota.
Members include hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living
facilities, ambulance services, other health organizations and
individuals. |

VA Cooperative Health Education Program (CHEP) represents 2 VA partners: |

² VA Employee Education System provides education services for VA employees and VA partners nationwide. The Fort Meade CHEP is one of the EES partner organizations. ²
VA Black Hills Health Care
System
has been a partner as the host facility for the CHEP since its inception in 1982.
The VABH is now composed of 2 campuses. The CHEP is located at the
Fort Meade campus and is referred to as the Fort Meade CHEP. |

Indian Health Service (IHS) established
the Black Hills Training Center in July 1975. The Training Center
was located at the Rapid City PHS Indian Hospital, Rapid City, SD, and
provided education for IHS and tribal health staff within the Aberdeen
Area (ND, SD & NE) and nationwide. The IHS officially partnered
with the Fort Meade CHEP in May 1997. |
