[Whiteriver, AZ]—Rick Lupe, a member of the White Mountain Apache Tribe and a Fort Apache Agency Fuels Specialist, died this morning, June 19, 2003 at approximately 0850 HRS at the Arizona Burn Unit in Phoenix.
Mr. Lupe was seriously burned in a prescribed fire burnover on May 14, near Whiteriver on the Fort Apache Indian Reservation. He suffered burns to 33% of his body and had been in a drug-induced coma since the incident.

The body of Rick Lupe will
be brought back for a two night Wake at his residence in Diamond Creek on
Monday, June 23, 2003 at 10:00 am.
Funeral services will be
held on Wednesday, June 25, 2003 at 1:00 pm at the Chief Alchesay Activity
Center in Whiteriver.
